Retrofit Aircon exists because the cleanest, fastest way to cut a building's running costs and its emissions was being overlooked — and we knew enough about refrigeration to do something about it.
Retrofit Aircon is built on a long background in commercial refrigeration. We've been working in the trade since 1989, and on hydrocarbon refrigeration specifically since 2013 — when it became clear that natural refrigerants were going to be where the industry was heading.
Our experience extends to building ice plants running on ammonia, freezers, cool rooms and icemakers, and air-conditioning systems for shopping centres. From small domestic split systems through to commercial refrigeration and truck refrigeration jobs.
That hands-on background is the reason we approach retrofits the way we do. We've installed enough of these systems from scratch to know exactly what works, what doesn't, and where the savings actually come from.
We're not selling new units. We're making your existing refrigeration system work better and more efficiently — for less money, with a fraction of the environmental impact. And we're extending the life of the system you already own: smoother, quieter operation means less wear, fewer breakdowns, and more years of service before replacement.
Natural refrigerants are already around us — in cars, air conditioners, domestic and commercial systems. What we do is replace the synthetic chemical refrigerant in your existing system with a natural one.

We come to you, assess the system, and tell you honestly whether a natural refrigerant retrofit makes sense. If your unit struggles on 35–50°C days, that's exactly where hydrocarbon refrigerant earns its keep — it performs at its best when it's hottest, while the compressor runs smoother and quieter. Lower bills, less wear, longer life for the system you already own.

Done well, a retrofit extends the life of your system: the compressor runs smoother and quieter, with less wear and tear and fewer breakdowns. If a system isn't worth retrofitting, we will tell you. We don't take on jobs that aren't economically viable.
