Everything customers usually want to know before booking a retrofit. Still stuck? The answer to the last question tells you how to reach a human.
The question we're asked first, and the one we're happiest to answer.
Yes — because of how we engineer the job. Every retrofit starts with thorough checks on your system: a thermal imaging (IR) scan for any hotspots, leak detection, and pressure testing to confirm the system holds. Propane is a hydrocarbon and a form of LPG — handled properly, by licensed technicians, it's run safely inside billions of refrigeration systems worldwide. We're fully insured, and we stand behind every job we do.
No — we're swapping out a chemical refrigerant for a natural one. It's a sealed system either way, charged with what the unit needs. The safety story is in how we do the work, not the gas itself.
No issue. Hydrocarbon refrigerants perform fantastically on hot days — that's actually one of their strengths. The better heat absorption means your system handles extreme temperatures with less strain on the equipment than the chemical refrigerant it replaced.
In most cases the existing system is suitable as-is. If anything specific is needed for your unit, we identify it during the free system check and include it in the written quote — there are no surprises once work begins.
What it costs, what you save, and where our numbers come from.
Anywhere from around 25% to 54%, depending on the system. A typical household air conditioner sits at the lower end. The biggest savings live in commercial setups — cool rooms, shops, pubs, clubs, supermarket refrigeration, high-rise air conditioning — where cooling is a large share of the power bill. The exact figure for your specific system is worked out during the free system check.
They're indicative figures only — based on what we typically see across the range of systems we work on. Every system is different, which is why we don't guarantee a number until we've checked yours.
It depends on the type and size of your system, so we quote each job individually. The system check is free, and you'll receive a written quote before any work is scheduled. There's no obligation to proceed. A 10% seniors discount is available on request — just let us know when you book.
For smaller domestic units, your investment is typically recovered through energy savings within around 12 months. Bigger systems usually deliver their full return within 12–18 months depending on size and run-hours. For comparison, solar panels on the roof generally take 5–6 years to deliver the same return — a retrofit is a much faster way to put money back in your pocket. We'll talk through a realistic estimate for your situation during the free system check.
What happens, in what order, and how long it takes.
A typical domestic split-system retrofit takes 2–3 hours, and the unit is back in service the same day. Depending on the site and the system, some jobs take longer — bigger commercial setups are quoted with their own timeframe after a site check.
The old synthetic chemical refrigerant is safely recovered by our licensed technicians. Responsible recovery is part of the work we carry out.
You'll need to provide access and 240V power for our equipment, and be available at the start and end. You don't need to be present for the work itself. We'll talk through the specifics when the retrofit is booked.
Same controls, better comfort. The unit reaches the set temperature noticeably faster than before, and holds it using less power. You set the thermostat the way you always have — it just gets there quicker, and costs you less while it's running.
Whether your system qualifies, and what's covered afterwards.
All of them, technically. Domestic split systems, ducted whole-home air conditioning, and commercial refrigeration systems running on R32, R134a, R404a and R410a (for example) are all candidates. The honest caveat: on some systems the cost of the retrofit can outweigh the savings. If yours falls into that category, we'll tell you up front and you can decide whether it's worth proceeding.
No — the retrofit itself does not void your unit's manufacturer warranty. If your unit is still inside its manufacturer warranty period, that warranty stays in place. We'll always check warranty status with you as part of the free system check, so you can make an informed decision before anything starts.
We cover parts and labour on the retrofit work we carry out for 12 months from the date of installation. We don't warrant work that's been done by others — only what we do ourselves. If anything in our work doesn't perform as expected within that period, we make it right.
Day-to-day, you'll need to keep the filters clean — both inside the unit and at the floor return. That's about it. The mechanical running of the unit doesn't need to be touched. We also offer an optional 12-monthly thermal imaging check for any hot spots, and a filter clean if needed — just to keep everything in good order.
